About
What the heck is Black Metal Disco?
Black Metal Disco is a webcomic about an almost washed-up metal band that gained massive fame back in the day. But, seemingly at the end of their musical career, fate from the metal gods granted them a new musical direction that changes the band forever. Was it a blood sacrifice? Were bat heads chewed upon? Did they discover auto-tune? Or was it rehab? Read to find out.
The Band

J.V.J. Jon Van Jean
Lead Vocals and Karate Sensei
JVJ co-founded ThunderSläp with Big Sticks Johnson and the late Kix-Six. He has been the iconic voice and frontman of the band since its historic start in a small to-be-named town near Liverpool, England. He is a three-time Grammy winner, a four-time Rehab champion, and an Emmy away from an EGOT. He has numerous albums and has 10 times that number of substances in his system.

Atticus Smithe
Tour Manager & Band Therapist
Been the tour manager since the late 1980s, when the band was at its apex in popularity. Has been with the band as the master negotiator, babysitter, drug mule, groupie coordinator, and, lately, the official band therapist. As a new therapist, his bestselling book, “Road Hard, A Band Manager Story.” has kept the band financially afloat for the last couple of years. He is a dedicated friend and a vital member of the band. His sarcastic bite and deal-making have kept the band moving for 55 years.

Nate "Z" Zander
Electric Magic User & Beats
Nate’s a brand new member who has brought an unbelievable new sound to the band; his unique take on synths and electronic music is defining a new vision for ThunderSläp. He joined the band suddenly and that story is unfolding.

Slög
Thunder & Bass
(They / Them) Joined ThunderSläp in the early 1990s. They speak softly but rock VERY loudly. A musical savant and doesn’t talk much. They refer to themselves as the 3rd person, “Slög Rock!”, Slög eat, & Slög make thunder. Has a fantastic musical bond with Zander, which is shaping the new ThunderSlap sound. “Less filler. More Killer.”

BigSticks Johnson
Former Drummer
Bigsticks Johnson is co-founder of ThunderSläp, which started in 1967. He, Kix-Six & JVJ started among many bands back then that have grown famous. His drumming skills are equal to his pyrotechnic skills and elevated the live show of the band to stardom. He’s a massive dude who is going through a Viking fashion stage. It might be middle-aged to go full “Middle Ages“, but he’s vain enough to pull it off.

Käy-Kay
Guitar, Screaming Distortion
Daughter of “Kix-Six,” the previous guitar player of ThunderSläp who tragically died in a parachute accident escaping a plane crash in the late 1980s.

Rat & Muff
Unofficial mascots & guard dogz
Genetically altered terrier dogs filled with piss & vinegar and completely loyal to whom they love and protect
Blög
Hiatus?
Is it burnout, or is it writer’s block? Or is it both? Hiatus! That’s what I’ll call it. I’ve had some professional roadblocks lately–i.e., I

About the dude who made this shite...
My name is Greg, and I was born in a foggy beach town in Pacifica, California. My Dad was a fireman, and my mom was a nurse, so I had a very protected childhood. For as long as I can remember, I have been doodling on the back of my math tests growing up. I can’t do math for my life of me, but I think I could always draw pretty decent–At least, my art teachers thought so.
Later, I got a scholarship to the Academy Of Art in San Francisco for a summer with my poorly drawn comic book as my entry portfolio. I didn’t last very long at school, as I was trying to live my early 20s, start a band, and discover that bars stayed open pretty late. After being swiftly shown the door at art school, I started a 3D animation studio with some friends in Santa Cruz, California. We only had a one-car garage startup, as most startups in Silicon Valley at the time had at least two-car garages. Then, our little studio was acquired the day after the dotcom bubble burst in the 2000’s. So, it was not an economic windfall by any means. However, that got me into the door of many technology companies, startups, and ad agencies in the SF Bay Area. Now, as my day job, I am a freelance Creative Director for various clients, and I am always looking for more at www.ideacircus.com. However, my passion has always been drawing and reading comics.
I live in Northern California with my wife, Diana, and our little rescue pup, Banjo. Trying to be an aspiring homesteader near the Charles Shultz Museum. Which is a treat for anyone who loves comics.
Anyhoo. Let’s tangent a moment about Music… I’ve tried my hat to be a rockstar drummer, shitty guitar player, and wannabe sound engineer. However, none of that panned out. I tried to start (i.e., no money made) a music show called Transmission-LIVE. It was a live music show that filmed concerts and backstage interviews, which was fun, and I got to meet some of my favorite bands growing up. Unfortunately, as the show was getting bigger acts, I started to discover that the music industry was a big bowl of poop, egos, and a lot of conflict–but that is another story.
Let’s talk about this story… a new story about my experiences and love of comics, music, and sarcasm. Black Metal Disco has been brewing for several years, and I’ve gotten into a groove to build it. So, I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers,
Greg
